Fair Board Extends Cash Party Invitation

DEMING – How can you donate $12,125 and still manage to provide improvements to the Southwest New Mexico State Fairgrounds and host a county fair? That is the goal of the SWNMSF Board of Directors when hosting the 2022 “Fairest of All” Cash Party on Saturday, July 16 in the fair building.

The party is the main fundraiser for the fair’s board of directors. They plan to give away a grand prize of $10,000 at the party and will give away an additional $1,500, $500, and $125 at the evening events.

Tickets are $125 per person and include a steak dinner, with all the trimmings, access to a cash bar provided by the Lazy Lizard Lounge in Deming, a live, silent auction, and live dance music. straight to the styles of the Horizon Band. You must be at least 21 years old to purchase a ticket.

Each year, the council hosts the Southwest New Mexico State Fair in October. The fair highlights Luna County’s accomplishments through agriculture, home economics, business, and arts and crafts. It is also the showcase for the sale of junior cattle to local and regional 4-H youth and FFA students.

The fair weekend begins on a Thursday with a royalty contest and cake auction. The Queen, Princess, Princess Junior and Princess Pee Wee are crowned and will reign throughout the weekend and the year.

“Each year we raise money from ticket sales and auctions to help improve the fairgrounds in areas we know the public will have access to,” said board chairman Marcus. Dominguez. In recent years, the council has made upgrades to the roof, electrical, plumbing, cooling, and major work in the rodeo arena.

“We were able to upgrade our main show buildings by replacing roll-up cargo doors, adding new doors to entrances, a fresh coat of paint, upgrading the roofing and replacing pegboards for our school exhibits, said Dominguez. . . “We also upgraded the pigsty and main barn by adding air conditioning, a roof and doors.”

The staged area for the Royalty Contest has major behind-the-scenes upgrades. Air conditioning, mirrors and clothes racks made the locker rooms more accommodating for contestants.

The way cash gifts will be distributed will be by lottery. The first ticket drawn will win back the ticket price of $125. The third to last ticket drawn will win $500. The penultimate ticket drawn will win $1,500. The last ticket drawn will win the cash prize of $10,000.

Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and live dance music will play until midnight.

Only 200 tickets will be sold for the cash party. They are available from any member of the Board of Directors. Members include Dominguez, President; Rebecca Hansen, Vice President; Cindy Reed, Treasurer; Chelsea McGinnis, secretary; and permanent members, Tom Rodriguez, Jeff Jackson, Cynthia Galindo, Joel Nanez, Jorum Robbs, John Bookout, Zack Nunn, Leslie Wilson and Karen Reed.
