GRAND RAPIDS, Wisconsin (WSAW) – A single mother of two recently diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer was surprised with “Best Christmas Ever” on Thursday.
Premier Real Estate has partnered with the “Best Christmas Ever” non-profit association. They coordinated with friends, family and the community to surprise Lisa Dotter and her two children.
Dotter was diagnosed on September 9 with myelodysplastic syndrome.
Having to take time off work because of her hospital treatment changed her life.
“It’s just overwhelming to stay awake at night trying to think about how the bills are going to be paid,” Dotter said.
Dotter’s colleague Jan Peronto saw her wrestle and decided to nominate her to be chosen for “The Best Christmas Ever”.
“Lisa has always done everything for others. And put everyone before her, ”Peronto said.
Premier Real Estate brought gifts for Dotter and his children. They also gave them a gift card for a new washer and dryer and coordinated with a company that will replace their air conditioning and furnace. He will also have an air purification unit to help Dotter with his weakened immune system.
“We wanted it to have an impact and make sense to them,” said Matt Tranel, owner of Premiere Real Estate.
They also raised $ 7,500 to pay for her housing expenses while she stays in Madison for her bone marrow transplant.
“She’s still fighting and she’s in our community and the community is around her and showing her that we love her and care about her, I think that’s really powerful,” Tranel said.
Lisa says today’s surprise cheered her up.
“I feel like I’ll sleep better tonight than I probably have since September when I found out,” Dotter said.
