LONDON, 25 October 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Britain’s leading refrigeration and heating company received high praise in the Impact on Diversity category at the RAC Cooling Awards last week. Star Refrigeration Group Sales and Marketing Director was also awarded the prestigious Fred jamieson Awards at this year’s event held at the Grosvenor House Ballroom in London.
The Diversity Impact Award was judged on the success of initiatives to improve diversity in the industry, particularly with regard to groups under-represented in the sector, including women and minority groups. Star was nominated for the award alongside the also âhighly recommendedâ women of the RACHP group and the winners of the STEmazing / World Refrigeration Day category.
Nadia rae, Human Resources Director of Star Refrigeration Group, said: âWe are delighted to have been highly commended for the impact on diversity at the RAC Cooling Awards and would like to congratulate the Women in RACHP group and in particular, STEmazing / World Refrigeration Day, whose commitment to diversity and excellence was recognized at the awards ceremony. “
“Star has a long-term commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion throughout the company. We strive to create an inclusive environment for all employees, recognizing and celebrating the benefits that a workforce brings. We know that by attracting more people from all walks of life to consider refrigeration careers, we can provide rewarding careers, improve our competitiveness and strengthen the talent we attract to the industry. â
Star has pioneered – and is a member of – many national and international initiatives to encourage girls and women to embark on STEM careers. The employees are part of Women in RACHP, a group created by the Institute of Refrigeration to promote women in industry, and the STEMazing Project, where staff acted as STEM ambassadors to inspire young people to pursue studies and careers in STEM subjects. Star has also provided additional financial support to STEmazing Africa and several other programs with global reach such as Glasgow university Femeng project.
In addition, the company has a strong presence in the local community. In addition to offering educational sessions in universities and schools and work opportunities for students, Star invites children and university students to visit its factories and find out how sustainable refrigeration and heating can help countries to achieve their net zero goals. Last year, schoolchildren from Newton Mearns visited the manufacturing facilities at Star’s Thornliebank to learn about renewables and heat.
Within the organization, Star promotes diverse job opportunities and maintains a positive corporate culture celebrating diversity and inclusion. The company is working to expand its recruiting networks, with the goal of advertising job and training opportunities to underrepresented groups, as well as offering accelerated engineering training programs to those who are leaving the army.
Star Refrigeration has received Platinum and Gold accreditations against Investors in People (IIP) and Investors in Young People respectively – a level achieved by only 3% of IIP accredited companies. This recognition underscores the company’s commitment to developing talent, especially early in their careers in the refrigeration and heating industry. It is also a testament to Star’s commitment to upholding its core values, which include attracting the best talent, protecting the workforce and their families, and retaining staff.
Nadia rae, said: âThere is still work to be done and we look forward to working with others in the industry to achieve greater diversity in the industry. It makes us really proud to see our efforts recognized and Star will continue to work to reduce barriers and promote inclusion throughout the company.
