The project of the architectural firm Philippe GilliÃ©ron expresses it both in the form and cubature and in the design of the facade: The wing of the building, 100 meters long, is located in a central location and covers an area of ââapproximately 14,000 mÂ² meters, while its six-storey tower marks the highest point of the entire Y-Parc.
The essential appeal of the building is also emphasized in a more figurative sense – the shimmering gold of the anodized aluminum facade elements can be seen from afar. Functionally, the project is divided into two main components, connected by a fully glazed atrium which serves as an access level. While one part houses educational and recreational activities, the other accommodates shops and offices.
Energy efficient with a transparent aesthetic
A place for training young people, the building is geared towards sustainability, a requirement to which it is also able to meet in terms of energy consumption. In addition to a rooftop solar system, an autonomous power supply network and a heat recovery system, the use of insulating triple glazing with the SILVERSTAR EN2Plus thermal insulation layer from Glas TrÃ¶sch ensures that the building meets Minergie P energy efficiency standards. âPlanning for the fully glazed atrium posed a particular challenge,â explains lead architect Mehdi Rouissi. âIt was important for us to emphasize the transparent aesthetic of the atrium as a connecting element of the two structures, while meeting all requirements for thermal and solar protection.
Here, the modern triple insulated glass stands out on three fronts: in summer, the low solar energy transmission of the SILVERSTAR SUNSTOP Silver 20 T sun protection layer prevents overheating of the atrium, while the thermal insulation layer SILVERSTAR EN2plus guarantees low heat loss in winter. This approach guarantees maximum transparency for the atrium, without the need for roller shutters.
