Fruit and vegetable themed play area proposed for the Kalamazoo farmer’s market

KALAMAZOO, MI – The Kalamazoo City Parks and Recreation Department (Kzoo Parks) is applying for grants to support Kalamazoo Farmers’ Market improvement plans and invites residents to comment on the plans in a virtual meeting.

Kzoo Parks will apply for a Trust Fund Development and Recreation Passport Grant to add a fruit and vegetable themed playground and replace the existing Bank Street Farmer’s Market washroom building.

The playground will provide a play area for children while parents shop and will also be accessible to young people year-round in the Edison neighborhood. The new toilet building will double the current toilet capacity, provide a larger office and increase storage by over 50%.

Kzoo Parks will invite the public to comment on this project at the Parks and Recreation Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting will be broadcast live on the city’s Facebook and YouTube channels. Community members who wish to comment on this project can do so by calling 269-226-6573 from 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, until the meeting’s public comment period ends.
